EcoSkills, in collaboration with Environmental Horizons, has successfully completed two training sessions for the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) on the topics of “Creating a GRI Standards ESG Report” and “Climate Change and measuring GHG emissions.”
EcoSkills, specialized in providing accredited sustainability and ESG training services to professionals globally, and Environmental Horizons, a prominent environmental services provider in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have partnered together to deliver live trainings of exceptional quality to the environmental team of SEC at their headquarters in Riyadh.
The first training session aimed to provide the SEC team with a comprehensive, step-by-step guide to conducting an ESG report, focusing on optimizing and enhancing the organization’s reporting process. Based on the GRI Standards, the course covered reporting requirements, identifying and reporting material topics, and managing key areas relevant to the energy and energy utilities sectors. Through practical examples, best practices, and case studies, participants gained the skills to improve transparency, credibility, and compliance with the GRI Standards in ESG reporting.
The Climate Change training session guided participants through measuring organizational greenhouse gas emissions, addressing climate-related risks, and understanding future challenges. It covered measuring Scope 1 and Scope 2 based on the guidelines of the GHG Protocol and reporting requirements under key ESG standards, like the GRI and SASB for the energy utilities sector. Participants were also introduced to Scope 3 emissions, science-based targets, and net-zero strategies. Tailored examples and case studies from the energy and energy utilities sectors were used. By the end, the participants gained a comprehensive understanding of emissions measurement, climate strategies, and the implications of climate change for their organization.
Mohamed Turki, the Training Programs and Development Manager for Environmental Horizons, mentioned that “seeing the engagement the participants demonstrated in understanding sustainable practices was very satisfying. The positive feedback and practical outcomes confirm the value of the training in helping organizations like SEC navigate today’s sustainability challenges while building a foundation for future success. It’s inspiring to witness our participants’ readiness to lead in sustainable practices, which is not only a win for their organisation but also a significant step towards collective ESG goals.”
George Markezinis, the instructor and Chief Learning Officer of EcoSkills, stressed that “as a trainer, it was particularly encouraging to see the SEC executives showing interest and eagerness to learn about the complexities of ESG reporting and climate change. EcoSkills specifically designed and developed a training for Saudi Electric Company, which not only offered learning opportunities but also fostered a meaningful dialogue on how these practices can play a crucial role in shaping their corporate future.
The objective of EcoSkills and Environmental Horizons was to foster a culture that prioritizes environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and strong governance by providing each participant with a more comprehensive roadmap for incorporating these principles into their respective responsibilities.
